Tsuchiya Orimono-sho book pouch (khaki)

HK$700

Located in Nara, Tsuchiya Orimono-sho is a workshop that produces everyday household items starting from the process of farming its own cotton, to the weaving and dyeing of fabric.

A quote by Yanagi Sōetsu that she posted on the website of Tsuchiya Orimono-sho saying, “The difference between handiwork and machine is the real human touch which is connected straight to the heart. […] The hands follow the heart; together, they create works with elements of joy. Intrinsically the principle and moral of handicraft are upheld, to maintain the authenticity of the works.”

Many book covers available out there have a standard dimension, so they might not necessarily fit your every book companion. After consultation, Tsuchiya has designed this book pouch for us. Measuring B5 in size, it has enough space for one book as well as a notebook or some stationery. It can come in handy for a short outing, for example, during lunch time for carrying items such as wallets and mobile phones. Through the use of knitting techniques, Tsuchiya has strengthened the originally soft texture of cotton, making it more solid, thereby enhancing its durability.

Materials: Mainly cotton
Dimensions: Around 27.5cm×21cm
